Mission Control

Not everything starts out straight. Some ideas take shape through obstacles, laughter, and sudden insights. This magazine tells what usually stays off-camera: the challenges, the mistakes, the quick fixes.

Every production has its own rhythm. The photography wraps up, the stylists adjust, the client nods. And then he arrives. The videographer. Eyes captivated, camera around his neck, hand already raised: ‘Shall we do one last take?’

Everyone knows it won’t be the last. But no one can say no to him.

The Last One That Lasts Twenty Minutes

Whether it’s a studio shoot, a caicco on the Elba, or a villa in Tuscany, the scene always plays out the same. Everyone ready to wrap, the sun going down, the sound guy packing up — and then him: ‘Sorry… just one last one?’

Then he does two. Then one handheld. Then one vertical. Then one in slow motion, ‘just to be safe.

Technique, Passion, and a Bit of Addiction

We’ve learned to accept it. And even to love it a little, this mechanism:

  • The last one is always the second-to-last.

  • “I swear, this is the last one” really means “I’ve got three more in mind.”

  • The final shots always turn out great.

  • No one ever has the courage to stop him.

And, in the end, he’s right: better one extra take than a regret in post.

The Resigned (and Complicit) Team

Over time, we’ve gotten used to it. Someone keeps the lights on out of habit. The stylists pretend to fix details that are already perfect. The client smiles with the fatigue of someone who’s long past schedule. And meanwhile, the videomaker moves lightly across the set. That’s where he lives best. Where everything is still in motion.

Final Thoughts

We never really know which one is truly ‘the last,’ and maybe that’s how it should be. Because it’s in that gentle stubbornness that the best things happen. And even though we all dream of a precise ending… we already know that next time, when he says ‘this is the last one,’ no one will believe him. But we’ll all let him do it anyway.

Let’s keep in touch.
